A Better Fit

I tried these brown jeans on and they were just too baggy, so I attempted to take them in a bit.  I've done this with a few pairs of pants I own.  Most times it works out as passably wearable for me, but there have been times when I've just ruined the item.  It's always a gamble, but I don't have much to lose with these inexpensive thrifted items if I totally destroy them.  If it works out...great...if not I'll throw them away and go thrift a pair that actually fits.  I'm trying not to purchase any new pants just yet though, so I was happy the alterations I made on these turned out okay.

  1. Love that shimmery jacket!

I do the same thing: items I'm not IN LOVE with, I think of a way to make them better. At that point, its not a loss if it dosent work out as I wouldnt wear them anymore anyway!

  5. This, too, is a very flattering color for you! Nice save on the pants!
I don't believe there's a color that you cannot wear! A classy look today!

  6. These are your colors! You look amazing in these warm tones of brown and cream.

It looks like you did a great job on the pants. They look perfect to me! As an avid thrifter, I am quick to buy things for $5 thinking I'll just take them in a bit. Problem? I don't sew!

    1. I do have a sewing machine...but I BARELY sew. I wore these pants to work, but put a pair of jeans in the car just in case my seams decided to blow open. lol

  7. Hi Lisa, I'm Lisa too. I love thrifting! Most of my outfits are thrifted, too. I only wish I had the talent to alter my thrifted treasures.

  8. Hi Lisa, That's what I love about thrift items. I can alter the heck out of them and if they don't work out, well, I haven't lost much. I consider it sewing practice. It looks like you did a great job on the pants.

    1. Yes! It's sewing practice. I don't sew well at all and I wouldn't attempt it on anything I just couldn't live without. I'll leave that to a professional.

  9. I have bought a couple of items that I hoped to alter. They are still awaiting the alteration. I think I should just face reality and know that I am not going to get it done! You on the other hand do a fab job of thrifting and altering. Love your ourfit.

    1. I try not to purchase items intentionally that need altering, because I don't sew very well at all. But these pants I'd had for a few year and just got to where they weren't fitting properly so I gave it a shot. Believe me...I'm a procrastinater. ha

    1. Hi, Lynne.
I think we're BOTH going to have to go shopping with Diane from Haute Flashion. I was just introduced to her and her blog and am totally drooling over all her fab Goodwill finds. I was trying to refrain from thrifting for a while, but now I feel like I just cannot live another day without a marvelous faux fur coat and vest. haha

  11. Seems like your alterations worked just fine. That's a great skill to have. Did you take up the leg width or the waist via the back seam? I've never tried the former, and probably should learn how! You look very together and very thoroughly styled!

    1. Hi, Jan. I have only attempted to take up the leg seams...either in the inner or outer leg. I can pretty much sew a straight line and that's it. haha I wouldn't have a clue about altering a back seam.

  12. Check out the new trends, pants are becoming more baggy... after losing weight not sure if I will embrace it. but might consider it if they are pants I already own... great job with the alterations! I found Diane's blog today and love her style!!!!

    1. Hi, Tracey. I don't know that I'll be embracing baggy britches either. I can see dress slacks that flow nicely and don't fit tight.... What comes to mind for classy slacks are those of Fifty Not Frumpy. She always dresses so elegantly.
