Pants That Don't Flatter But are Crazy Comfortable

I thrifted these print pants (White House Black Market brand) for summer due to their thin fabric and the fact that they feel like pajama pants when you're wearing them.  They are not the most flattering (baggy AND wild print), but I like them.  They can be worn with my casual black sandals, my white sneakers, black ballerina flats, or my dressier black low heeled mules....however, these days I seem to not be wanting to wear any type of heel at all and am opting for more casual looks most of the time.

What's For Dinner - Buddha Bowls And Other Meals From May

We eat a lot of what I call "Buddha Bowls".
I usually prepare them with a combination of veggies and rice or sweet potato.  Sometimes I add in chicken or salmon. I usually add either a creamy avocado or tahini dressing (LOVE the tahini dressing).
I sometimes don't follow any one recipe exactly, but will vary the ingredients a bit or use elements from more than one recipe.  (That goes for just about any recipe, not just the Buddha Bowls.)

We love the Buddha Bowls.  They are healthy and can be created using a combination of many different foods.
Here is a great instagram site, @veggininthecity, with some amazing food bowls.  I just discovered it about two minutes ago and I'm sure I'll get all kinds of new ideas.
And here is my daughter Shelley's (@raw_Shelley) instagram and website.  She follows a mainly raw diet, is currently on a cleanse, so is posting about that at the moment.

This Buddha Bowl consists of sweet potato, brussels sprouts, chicken, spinach, raw pumpkin seeds and a creamy avocado dressing.

We stopped using salt and now use a salt substitute instead.  I try to make our meals with as little sodium as possible.  That's not always easy when using any packaged foods, but I have tried to choose products that have a low sodium content.

We had missed our normal pizza joint, but I discovered I could make our own very low sodium thin crust pizza. The one below has a crust made of wheat flour, a little oil, and water.  Toppings are no salt added tomato sauce with a little tomato paste, low fat mozzarella, spinach, onion...and I'm not really sure if there is anything else on this one.  Sometimes I add sun dried tomatoes, mushrooms, or ground turkey.

One Pot Spicy Thai Noodles w/Chicken, Broccoli, and Cashews

Turkey Stroganoff Burgers w/Mushrooms, and Peas

A piece of baked chicken over wilted spinach w/ a side of mashed black beans w/salsa, and avocado slices.

Smoky Cauliflower Salad: roasted cauliflower, spinach, chicken, red onion, raw pumpkin seeds, dates, oil/must/cider vinegar dressing

Crispy Chicken Salad: Trader Joe's Breaded Chicken Tenderloin Breasts, Trader Joe's Soycutash, avocado, croutons, honey mustard dressing

Baked White Beans w/ Carmelized Onions, with chicken, asparagus, Glory tomato
In most of my dressings I add a packet of equal to make is sweeter.  I also use lots of seasonings...garlic powder, onion powder, salt substitute, pepper, italian seasoning, basil, chili powder, cayenne pepper, cilantro...depending on the recipe.
Many of the basis for these recipes can be found at my Copy Me That recipes site.

New Ballet Slippers From Urban Outfitters

I'm loving my new ballerina flats.  They retail for $39.99, but you can get them on sale now for $29.99 at Urban Outfitters here.  I thrifted mine for only $4.89.  They are in perfect condition and so comfy.

My striped tee is Merona brand from Target and was $3.99. (I have thrifted 4 of these exact same tees,
but one has the sleeves cut off to above the elbow.)

The blazer is nearly 15 years old.

Saying Goodbye To This Cardigan, But The Beaded Mules Are Keepers

I like the color of this cardigan, but not the way the buttons start so low in front.  It just wasn't comforably covering me.  I was tugging on it all day. I didn't like the way it looked left open either.
I did wear it draped over my shoulders once and I did like that look.  But I asked myself "Do I really want to hang onto this cardigan to wear only on those occasions when I want to drape it over my shoulders?".  My answer to self was "No...let it go, Lisa".  So I did.  I redonated it back to the thrift store.
Sometimes I have to have little persuasive talks with myself in order to take action and purge unnecessary clothing items. :)
How cute are these little beaded slip on mules?  I love the colors and mules are a comfy shoe for me.  I thrifted these 2 years ago for $5.59.

Simple Black

I love the simplicity of this outfit.  It perfectly suits my style.  The base is just a pair of black jeans and a sweatshirt/sweater.  I added a cute pair of loafers with bow detail, a little neck scarf from ebay and a pair of earrings I thrifted for only 69 cents.
This could absolutely be my daily "uniform".

Have you ever asked yourself the question..."What pieces in my closet would I choose if I could only pick one top, one bottom, and one pair of shoes to wear for the rest of my life?  You know...a sort of if I were stranded on a desert island type question.

What items would you choose?

When I think of the answer to that question for myself and consider my fantasies of having the wardrobe of a minimalist.... I imagine how it would be to have just a few pieces of clothing reflective of what I'm wearing here.  A few pieces that I really love, feel good in, and could wear all the time.
Would I feel freedom in that choice?  Would I get bored?  Maybe I'll make it happen someday and find out.
I am pretty proud of myself for seriously cutting back on my thrifting.  My goal this year is to spend less than half of what I did last year.  So far so good!
