I spent a couple of hours this evening trying to refashion the dress I wore today. I'm an extremely amateur seamstress, but I thought I'd give it a try. I cut the dress straight across and then just hemmed the top part. I think I might actually wear this as a top. It's a sleeveless top, so I'll most likely wear something over it like in the photo. For the skirt I just sewed in a piece of elastic at the top and sewed down each side to make it more fitted. I still have to cut off the excess and iron it. I'm not sure if the skirt will get any wear, but we'll see. I didn't work too hard to put together a nice outfit as I had been in my jammies and it's movie and snack time with hubby so I was in a hurry. :)
What great work! Much better than the dress I'd say. I like both pieces separately. I think the skirt would look great with a red top or maybe you even have something you can pattern mix with it? I bet you do! ;)
ReplyDeleteHi, Joni. Oh, I'd have no idea what to pattern mix with it. I'd have to really think about that. Haven't had much practice with that technique, but will maybe give it a try.
DeleteThe red top is a great idea! Thanks for suggesting that. I was kind of at a loss as to what to wear with it.
Great that you were able to do that!! I wouldn't know where to start:) Have a lovely week!

Yeah, I think I'll wear the top, but probably scrap the skirt. You have a good week too. It's rainy and cool here. Blah
DeleteYou did a great job! If it were me, I'd either still be staring at the fabric or have made a mess of it.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday!
Thanks, Jessica Alise. Oh, believe me...I've had a few refashion disasters. haha
DeleteExcellent upcycle! You rescued this dress for a second time. I understand how a movie and snack time with a partner trumps all style initiatives! I just cleaned out my closet. What a relief.
ReplyDeleteHm, I think the skirt could afford to be a little shorter...you might wear it more.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Well done!
