Inspired To Dress For Fall + Food and Weight Journal

I was very happy with how today's outfit turned out.  I have had trouble styling this striped waterfall cardigan and therefore have only worn it a couple of times.  But I got great inspiration from a blogger I just discovered!  She is Deborah from Stylish Murmurs and I love her style.  The inspiration post for my outfit today was here.  I'm excited to see more of her upcoming outfits.  I like how she layered the scarf over the long cardigan and necklace....so I tried that in my outfit too.
These black pants are new and this was the first time I'd worn them.  The pants are of a bit a thicker material and have a few snaps at the side of the ankle and they were too long for me, but I somehow managed to get them hemmed and now they fit perfectly!  So happy about that.  I also added a color for shoe and purse to match similar color in scarf.  I also mixed stripes with stripes...or, no wait...I guess that's large checks with stripes.  I was really on a roll today! ha  Anyway...here it is...ta-daaaa!

  1. WOW! Lisa, you are looking fantastic!! The outfit is well thought out, yet looks effortlessly chic in the end. Even the length of the pendant is spot on. And You Girl! I will say again, you look fantastic.

    1. You have a good weekend too, Sabine. I think the exposure is just really high on these photos and makes my hair look lighter.

  6. Love, love, love this outfit on you! Casual chic at its best! You should be driving a little low-slung sports car. Technical question: how difficult is it to alter pants that are slightly baggy? I have no problem with hemming (no hawing...har, har).

    1. Hi, Donna. Wish I could wear sunglasses to really get "THE look". haha I wear glasses all the time (except in the photos) and so never wear sunglasses outdoors. I never really liked looking through tinted lenses anyway...but they sure do look cool and give a more classy look.
The slimming of the pants... well, I'm not very good at sewing. I eyeball and guess. haha I normally just guess how much I want to take off and where I want to start...how high up on my leg...and then turn just start sewing and gradually sew in deeper to make them skinnier in thigh to knee region and then gradually go wider the rest of the way down, but slimming them down some. Then I try on and sew some more if needed in places. Then cut off the excess. I usually have a place at upper thigh that I didn't get tight enough and have to go back and slim that part more. And I just look at the finished leg, once I get it right, to eyeball the second to match. However, Sue, of A Colorful Canvas, gave me a good tip about laying the finished leg on top of the other leg and pinning where the second needs to be sewn to match the first completed one. I sometimes mess them up and they're not wearable...but if I've only paid a few dollars for them then it's not the end of the world and I can get more...hopefully that fit better the next time without having to do all the altering.

  7. Hi Lisa, I just wanted to say thank you for the lovely "shout out" and I love your outfit! The pattern mix between the stripes and check is fabulous and the addition of colour through the scarf, bag and shoes, while subtle, really adds that 'something special'. You look gorgeous. Now off to catch up on your blog, it's really lovely to 'meet' you. I will be sure to add a link to your blog in my next post :) x Deborah (Stylish Murmurs)

  8. Wow, this is one of my favorite outfits you've done yet! I love the soft layering on the top and how it highlights your face and hair while transitioning smoothly to the bottom. I think your gold necklace adds the perfect touch.

    1. Thank you, so much, Aya. Someday I'd like to "weed out" many of my outfits that aren't really working for me and just have a smaller number of fantastic ones. Wouldn't that be great?! ...to dress nearly every day in something that felt truly amazing. Unfortunately, I have a long way to go in reaching that goal....one reason being I hate to let go of anything and feel obligated to wear it...even if it doesn't look the greatest. How weird is that? ha I'm going to continue to work on it though.

    1. I only have one place where I can take my pictures...the bedroom. I set the little camera on top of a dresser and set the 10 second timer.
